Cablevision Adds 4 New High Definition Channels

Here is the story you have been waiting for...

CableRant.com sources have told us exclusively that between December 2nd and 5th, Cablevision will launch four new HD Channels. 

USA HD will be on Channel 738
CNBC HD will be on Channel 771
Bravo HD will be on Channel 745
Sci-Fi HD will be on Channel 748

Enjoy the new channels.  Now that Cablevision has made Sci-Fi HD available what channel will the internet demand they add next?

Golf HD (787) and Versus HD (719) split into their own separate channels on cablevision too as reported by Engadet HD.

Any word as yet on what they plan to put on Channel 701 to replace MOJO after they stop broadcasting December 1st?

I saw stories that several cable companies were discussing putting MGM on in it's place.

Also, how long until they finally add the premium suites as previously promised (ie: HBO, MAX, Showtime etc). They charge full price for these services and only provide 1 HD channel for each.

Anyhow, thanks for the update - as I've said before, glad to see any new HD services - just don't understand why Cablevision is the slowest of all to bring them out.

Why assume they will replace Mojo on 701? They just announced 4 new and VERSUS/GOLF is splitting into 2 full time ch's.

I thanked you for the info on letting us know about the new additions and clearly said any new HD additions was good. This HD package addition happens to be a good choice, but these particular services have been available for some time in HD. Obviously, Cablevision felt the high quality of a VH-1, CMTV and MTV with virtually no HD programming was by far a more valid choice to add before Sci-Fi, Bravo, CNBC or USA HD. The process used for HD additions prior to this launch has been highly subjective to say the least.

By any measure, Cablevision has been slow in bringing out HD services noting the 8 month wait earlier this year and the numerous services available that we still don't get. If this is complaining so be it, I have that right.

As for Channel 701 MOJO, MGM was trying to get itself launched with various Cable systems in place of MOJO, so the question was valid.

As for your statement that Cablevision has the most HD of any cable provider you are wrong - Time Warner now has 83 HD channels in the New York area per attached (I also attached the MGM reference). Not to mention that phone company TV with over 100 HD channels (and don't give me that semantics excuse it's a phone company - the delivery method is the same and Cablevision offers phone service too.)

Finally, I don't pay for the HD versions of any channel, since HD is Free (or so the claim goes). But since subscribers pay a premium for these services over and above ther basic fee charged, it should be a priority to provide the HD services for this the same as you would provide a first class passenger with better service for the higher fee charged - just common business sense. Especially since Cablevision advertises itself as the best.

As for complaining, Cablevision is the one always claiming the best fiber-optic technology, best cable service and 500 channel capability so they set the bar in their claims. If they can't live up to their claims, they shouldn't make them.

The simple fact of the matter is that we're losing one but picking up five new HD channels and two standard def ones.  Just because something isn't on channel 701, doesn't mean CV isn't using the free space to add one of the new channels. 

If you're upset MGM-HD isn't one of them that's fine, but I would not correlate MGM going after MOJOs bandwidth with nothing being on channel 701.

MLB Channel starts on 1-1-09.  On Cablevision, and every else.

I'm told both in sd and hd versions.

I wouldn't classify CNBC as an HD channel.  The only thing that is HD about it is the graphics.  However, CNBC was the first to implement the SD 4:3 picture moved to the side and adding HD graphics to gain an HD channel.  Espn News, Fox Biz, and FNC have followed suit.

As for Bravo, USA, and SciFi they don't have a lot of HD content either, some movies and Wrestling should look good but that is it.

But lets keep the HD channels coming, the more the better.  I would love HDNET and of course NFL Network.

I talked to Marc Cuban a few months ago, I had to check him in for a remote intv, and when I asked him about HDNET on cablevision he said "OHHHH I know cablevision" and that I should just switch to FIOS lol.

I will not hold my breath because I don't want to die.

I know there a lot of haters out there who are upset with these channels being added, but they are better than a lot of others that were added in the past.  At least these channels offer some content in HD, unlike MTV, VH1, FUSE, CMT.
