DNS Redirection

Just got word from my supervisor that Cablevision will start using DNS Redirection on Sept 22nd for Optimum Online.
What does this mean?
When someone misspells a domain name or uses one that does not exist it will redirect the customer to a search engine page with a list of of results that may be similar. Basically they are forcing customers to use their search engine, which of course they make money from.

Its worse than you know. If you VPN into your company, instead of getting internal DNS resolution from your company server, you'll get bogus answers from OOL. Hotels have been doing this for years, and causing no end of trouble for VPN users.

I am SO glad I don't work there any more. I can hear the calls now.
That is a search feature we added to help you find what you're looking for.
But I don't want this! Remove it now!
Yeah, really glad I don't work there anymore.

Luckily, you can opt-out of it.
Visit the following link to opt-out if you don't want to use DNS redirection from Optimum Online
